Southwest Industrial Electric | May 2025

Welcome to the May 2025 Edition of The Electric Link!

As we move deeper into Q2, we’re continuing to electrify the industries we serve with new installations, expanded partnerships, and community engagement. This month, we're celebrating our annual charity basketball event and a few major project milestones. Let’s take a look at the highlights from May!

🏀 3rd Annual Charity Basketball Tournament – Recap
Homenetmen Glendale | May 16, 6:30 PM

The 3rd Annual SIE Charity Basketball Tournament was a huge success! We were honored to welcome back returning teams and thrilled to host the Los Angeles Fire Department for the first time.

In the opening round, LAFD secured a strong win over Alpha & Structural, while Enterprise claimed victory over Southwest Industrial Electric. The final matchup between LAFD and Enterprise brought the energy — and in a hard-fought game, the Los Angeles Fire Department came away with the championship win!

Thank you to all who participated, supported, and helped raise funds for the LAFD Foundation. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Project Spotlight: Transformer and Forklift Charger Installation

Our team completed an equipment power upgrade and forklift charger installation for a manufacturing facility in Southern California. This project supports critical machinery and charging infrastructure to keep operations running smoothly.

Scope of Work:

  • Removed existing wire feeding the H10A saw.
  • Rewired machine from a 208-volt panel using properly sized conductors.
  • Upgraded from a 3-pole 20-amp to a 3-pole 30-amp circuit breaker.
  • Installed and connected a customer-supplied transformer to power the machine.

Forklift Charger Installation:

  • Installed a new 3-pole 30-amp circuit breaker
  • Ran 30-amp rated conduit and wire from Panel HA to the forklift charger station near the breakroom.
  • Installed (2) 30-amp twist-lock receptacles.
  • Provided and connected (2) 30-amp twist-lock plugs and power cords for the chargers.

Projects like this show our ability to execute precise electrical upgrades for industrial clients—on time, to spec, and ready to support evolving operational demands.

This Month in Electrical History: May 19, 1888 – Tesla’s Induction Motor Patent
On May 19, 1888, Nikola Tesla was granted a U.S. patent for the induction motor — a pivotal advancement in the history of electricity. Unlike earlier motors, Tesla’s design used alternating current (AC) to create rotating magnetic fields that turned the motor’s rotor without direct contact.

This innovation powered the rise of modern industry and remains foundational in motors used today — from industrial machinery to electric vehicles. Tesla’s vision continues to spark new ideas and breakthroughs in the way we power our world.

👥 Meet the Team: Windy Martinez – Purchaser

What is your position at SIE and what interested you in such work?

My position here at SIE is Purchaser. I gravitated towards purchasing because I found that I am good at shopping and I enjoy finding quality things at low prices.

What do you enjoy most about your job and working at SIE? I love my job as I get to learn about new parts every day as well as making new connections with vendors and developing those relationships. If I had to say what I enjoy the most, it’s learning about electrical parts and different tools and materials that are used. Never a dull moment!
